Introduction

An introductory and awareness session – ‘Substation Familiarization’ about Substation, was  held by IEEE IAS-IES Jt. SBC CEA on the 24th and 25th July 2024. It was conducted in the form of an interactive session and it was mainly focused on the students from the Electrical and Electronics department. The speaker of the event was Prof. Jain George, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical And Electronics Engineering,College of Engineering, Adoor.

Brief Description:

Mr. Abhijith R, Chair IEEE IAS-IES Jt. SBC CEA welcomed the speaker Prof. Jain George, to
the event. The host of the event was Miss Sree Lakshmi Manoj, Secretary, IEEE IAS-IES Jt.
SBC CEA.On the 24th, Prof. Jain George introduced himself to the participants of the session. He first gave an overview of Substation using a PowerPoint presentation. He also explained about the different types of substations. Then he continued to explain about the working of the 11kV, 220kV substations.On the 25th, a visit to the 11kV substation at the college as an industrial visit. There he explained about the lightning arresters, air- breaker switches and showed them to the students.He then explained about incoming distribution lines. The session was ended by Miss Sruthy Joshy,Vice Chair,IEEE IAS-IES Jt. SBC CEA, giving the vote of thanks. The event was successful in achieving its aim of imparting an overview and a basic knowledge about Substation to the students.
